Cheap And Cheerful To High End Shopping… You Can Get It All In Siam, Bangkok.

I’m sure many of us have been bar hopping… going from one bar to another having drinks in a single night or even day!

Now, one day in Bangkok city I decided to go shop hopping! And one of the best places to do it is in Siam…

It was busy on the skytrain as I was making my way to Siam for some shopping. I was specifically looking for some thongs…

Not the underwear type thongs! In other places you might call them flip-flops or jandals. Yet for us Aussies, they’re thongs :)

Also, if I happened to spot a casual summery dress then that’d be a bonus!

I’d taken the BTS from Sala Daeng. From here, it’s two stops to Siam… and the fare was 23 baht (about USD $0.75).

It was packed on the skytrain. It probably didn’t help that I went closer to lunch time.

Once I stepped off the skytrain at Siam, I looked for signs to see which exit to take to Siam Square One…

So to get to Siam Square One, I had to take exit 4…

Yet silly me… I was so engrossed in taking photos that I took the wrong exit!

This is the exit for Center Point Of Siam Square…

Oh well! While I was here I had a quick look at the directory. Nothing was really screaming out at me to go have a look.

I didn’t spend much time in there so can’t comment on it. All I can say about it was that the air conditioning was good… and it was very quiet.

From here I had no idea then how to get to Siam Square One. I could’ve asked someone. Instead, I decided wander and see where my exploration would take me!

Opposite the Center Point Of Siam Square was Siam Center…

Initially walking in it was dark. There are four floors to this shopping center…

Floor G is called the Fashion Avenue. Here are your popular name brands including… Adidas, M.A.C., Sephora, Victoria’s Secret, and more.

Foor M is called the Fashion Galleria. This is the floor I entered in on. One of the first stores I saw were a couple of foodie places. Then I saw Charles & Keith, Havaianas, Aldo, Kiehl’s, and plenty more.

Floor 1 is called the Fashion Visionary. I’d never heard of any of the brands or stores here. Something to check out if you’re looking for a different mix of designer clothes, accessories and more.

Floor 2 is the Food Factory. No explanation needed here! Has many options to suit a variety of taste buds if you get hungry here.

From Siam Center I saw signs leading you to visit Madame Tussauds, if that’s your thing.

I didn’t spend a lot of time in Siam Center, as I was originally wanting to shop at Siam Square One… and by this stage hadn’t hit it yet! LOL.

Anyway, to cut a long story short…

After leaving Siam Center, I headed down to the street level. I saw some dresses just inside Center Point Siam Square. As I went in to have a look… More dresses to the right hand side yet outside caught my attention…

I thought I’d explore down this street…

As I did I past a lot of small Thai street food stalls. Then at the end of this section was a big “Carnival’ type set up. Lined down this section were lots of little stalls…

This seemed interesting… Although it was stifling hot I spent a bit of time meandering around here. There were lots of cheap clothes, accessories, shoes and more. Just for the females!

Prices were really cheap too. You could get shoes starting from 150 baht (about USD $4.75).

How about a pair of cheap sunglasses from 180 baht (about USD $5.70). Not sure about the UV protection factor… yet I’m sure it’s more for fashion than health purposes!

After I’d finished looking here, I looked up and saw a sign on a building for… Siam Square One. Woo hoo! I finally found it!

The shopping center was quite big. It was different… There were stores inside as well as like outdoor mall areas too.

There are several floors, divided into 7 Sois. To me it was confusing!

I was walking in Soi 7 then before I knew it I’m in Soi 5! Unfortunately I may have put high expectations on this shopping center as I felt disappointed. For me, it didn’t have what I was looking for.

Maybe I was just too picky! LOL.

There are HEAPS of food places though. Here’s a big directory of places. I know you won’t be able to read it. It’s just to give you an idea of the amount of places…

Beside that was the directory for Siam Square One…

Similar to the other Siam Shopping Centers… there are plenty of shops. Yet, I’d say it’s more of a fashion paradise for females.

The clothes are definitely different compared to say at MBK. I found the clothes at Siam more fashionable, although it definitely had a more younger crowd feel to it.

I’d say that largely has to do with it being so close to Chulalongkorn University.

If you want more high end shopping stores, to Siam Paragon which is close by. This is a massive shopping center yet I didn’t have time to get there to check it out.

Also nearby is Siam Discovery. This is a different shopping concept where each floor is called a LAB. This shopping center’s theme is around exploring. Sounds interesting… Perhaps I’ll make time for it on another visit!

From this Siam shopping mecca, you can walk to MBK Center… another massive shopping center. It’s different and you should check it out. You can see my blog post about it HERE.

TIP…

Try the route to MBK by walking on the street level. Along the way you can stop by and check out the side alleys between Siam Square Soi 7 and Soi Chulalongkorn 64… There’s quite a few shops that you’ll miss out on by going via Siam Discovery and the Skywalk.

Have fun shopping!
