As a traveler and blogger, sometimes I’d wondered how to create a custom Google map. Plus, I’m not that technically inclined, so I never really looked into until recently.
I was doing a blog post on the Hue nightlife, and 8 Hue Bars To Get Cheap Drinks. So I thought it might be a good idea to map the bars out, to make it easier for our readers.
Yet, in the end, after a little trial and error… I was able to make a map using the Google Maps website. Boy, was I excited and proud of myself!
So in this blog, I’ll guide you step by step on the process I did to create a custom Google Map. There are some funky tools you can use too! Plus, it’s completely free to do.
So let’s dive in…
Step By Step Guide On How To Make A Map Using The Google Maps Website

Step 9
In the search bar, type in the place you want to mark on the map, and click on it. See an example below…

Step 10
If you want to add more places, repeat steps 8 to 9 until you’re done.
So these are the basic steps on how to make a map using the Google Maps website. If you want to customize things like your pins, colours and more, check out my TIPS…
TIP:
If you want, you can change the icon or customize it by clicking on the plus symbol…
As an example, I changed my green icon to a black beer icon…
TIP:
If you want, you can change the title of the map to what you want by clicking on “Untitled map”, then in the Map title box, type in the name of your map…
You can add a description if you like. Then hit the Save button.
TIP:
You can also change the layer name by clicking on “Untitled layer”, then in the box type in what you want to call it and hit the Save button…
So that’s it!
And here’s the result of my very first attempt at how to make a map using the Google Maps website…
