We had to update our travel blog about Bars in Da Nang as it has changed heaps even within a year or so! Now, in 2024 there are a lot more places on the scene. It’s constantly changing in Da Nang… with new bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants opening outside of the many accommodation places. Of course, that’s exciting for the owners, as well as for the locals and tourists alike. It means more choice and variety.
Yet, sadly we’ve seen places close down, some even only lasting for weeks!
We do love Da Nang and the side that we prefer is the beachside as opposed to the city side. There is contrast in atmosphere between the beach and city areas… which is crazy as they’re only around 10-minutes drive from each other! And, if you’ve seen our other blogs about Vietnam and Da Nang, you’ll discover more about why we love this place… and why we continue coming back.
We believe that it must have something to do with the laidback, relaxing environment. Maybe it’s the cool sea breeze or the sound of the waves rolling in. Plus, we still can’t believe how cheap it is to have drinks by the beach for as little as 25,000 VND; that’s about USD $1 or EUR 0.95 or GPB 0.80. How many places in the world can you get cheap drinks like that with magnificent views such as the one above?
Now, there are several beaches along the DaNang coastline. Yet, our favorite area still is My An. Nowadays, it has more expats living here, more digital nomads passing through… and more tourists rolling up.
And, on a recent trip to Da Nang, we found that there were even MORE bars that were new on the scene. Yet, with that, a few of our favorites had closed down.
So, as our fellow travelers and followers would know… when it comes to traveling, for us drinking is a big part of our lives!
That’s why, in this We Drink Eat Travel blog… we’ll run through 10 bars in Danang in the My An beach area. Why not check them out when you visit the awesome town of Da Nang. And, let us know which bars were your favorite when you went there.
OK, so let’s begin!
1. Caribou Food Truck
You’d be crazy to go to DaNang and not visit the beach… as it has some of the most breathtaking views. And, when you’re strolling along the beachfront… be sure to stop by one of the many places for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Now, one of our favorite places for having a brew… along the waterfront in My An Beach is, Caribou. And, you’ll be able to find it by looking for a bright, golden yellow cute truck.
There are many tables and chairs set up on the footpath nearby, or on the beach. So, you can have a choice of enjoying your drinks dangling your feed in the sand, and watching the waves.
Or, you could sit on the footpath next to the truck. So, when the sun is setting you can turn your chairs to face the sun, get some rays… and watch as people stroll along the paved foothpath.
Yet, there is something you should know. And, at the time of writing this… if you’re wanting to try local Vietnamese beers, then this is not the place for you. That’s because they don’t have them on the menu!
In fact, they have a massive menu, where most of it is non-alcoholic. Yet, you can still get a beer, sit back and relax, and enjoy amazing views like this…
So, next on our list of Danang bars to check out is this one…
2. Corner Pub
Now, this pub was a newbie from our point of view, so we had to check it out. And, it’s on the corner of Ngo Thi Si and An Thoung 6 Streets. So, it’s a great location to watch the action.
See bicyclists, cars, motorcyclists, and pedestrians navigating around each other… let alone around the tourists, ha ha ha! It sure is a spectacle.
At one point we saw a family of 4 on a scooter heading to the beach. While in the opposite direction, a local Vietnamese guy had one pet dog perching on the front of his motorbike… and his second pet dog sitting on the back, enjoying the wind blowing through his ears!
Plus, as the sun went down we saw more vendors making their way around town. They’d be selling snacks like fruit and nuts.
And, we enjoy seeing the guys on a motorcycle… with a wood fire steamer on the back, selling their big buns. If you’ve never seen them before they have a flame burning on the back of their motorbike keeping those buns warm for customer. Plus, they have their iconic loud speaker blaring… to let you know they have buns for sale. Starting from only 15,000 VND, why not try one if your belly starts grumbling!
Sorry, I did digress! At the Corner Pub they have a variety of drinks to please your tastebuds. Yet, for us, as many of you know we love our beer.
While they have a variety of beers on offer, you can get a small bottle of Huda beer at 25,000 VND. And, for a great deal you can grab a big bottle of Huda beer instead at 450ml, for only 30,000 VND. And, the great thing is, most of the time the beers were ice cold. Plus, we could listen to some great tunes. On certain nights they have DJ to spice up the night until the wee hours of the morning.
Next on our list of the bars in Danang to check out is…
3. Aqua Betty
Next to Corner Bar is an alleyway… where you can find this “hidden” Vietnamese tropical oasis by the name of Aqua Betty. As you head down the alleyway, you won’t find a massive sign with their name on it. Instead, keep an eye out for colorful lanterns that adorn this bar… especially when you head inside.
One of the great things about this bar is… they often have a variety different activities, to keep regulars coming back. For example, they have quiz nights, karaoke, live bands and open mic nights… where you can show off your singing talents. Or maybe you’ve had enough liquid inspiration to encourage you to get on stage!
So, as a tourist if you’re wanting to get into the action while on vacation… you’re bound to find something happening during your stay in Da Nang.
Only about 1 minute walk away from Aqua Betty… is this next little Da Nang bar, if you’re looking for a place to with a VERY laidback atmosphere.
4. Green Grotto
Now, when you look up Green Grotto in Google… you’ll discover that it’s name states, Green Grotto Coffee. So yes, while you can get coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks… it’s also a small pub too. The word “green” also has other connotations, of which you’ll discover when you get there!
The staff are young, hip and chilled. Once you’re there, you can’t help but feel to slip into relaxation mode. And, we’d have to say that they have one of the best happy hours in Da Nang. At the time of writing, they had buy 1 get 1 free Huda beers for example. Plus, what makes it even better is that the beers here are real cheap too.
Just bear in mind though that if you’re wanting to watch the world go by… this is not the place for you. And, you’re better off hanging out at one of the bars on say the main road of Ngo Thi Si.
Yet, if you’re after more places along the same wavelength of Green Grotto, then check out another of the chill bars in Da Nang…
5. Heaven Bar
Heaven Bar exudes a lot of colour and is on the main bar street of Ngo Thi Si. Oftentimes it has a laidback atmosphere. Yet, there are live bands that do perform here.
Here there are seats at the front to people watch, or you can sit inside under the thatched bamboo structure. Whether you come alone or in a group, you’ll feel welcome.
And, if you get peckish they do have food, including items such as cheese platters! So, you can devour that while you’re enjoying the chilled atmosphere… or listening to some beats.
So, the beers are cheap, starting from 25,000 VND for a small bottle of local beer. And, at the time of writing they have an “interesting” happy hour special. Between the hours of 4:20pm to 6:50pm you can buy 2 beers or mixed drinks and get 1 free. A great place to include if you’re planning on doing a pub crawl around Da Nang!
Next on our list of Danang bars you may like to check out is this one…
6. The Trip 66
Now, for those of you who went to Danang many years ago… you’d know about one of the best bars in Danang by the name of, Minsk. Unfortunately, this top bar was shut down a while ago. And, when reminiscing with many of the “old Danang” locals… it sure was a hit, an institution in fact, and sadly missed.
Yet, it did look like it was re-incarnated into a bar by the name of, The Trip. And, having been there a couple of years ago… it was interesting to discover if it was still there.
So, when we were in Danang, we went back to the same location… on the corner of Phan Tu and My Da Dong 10 Streets. And, we found that there was still a bar there. Yet this bar was by the name of, The Trip 66.
It still had the same structure… yet there were a few changes including no more sand underfoot. So, no more worries about getting sandy feet!
Now, local bottle of beers would start from 25,000 VND (about USD $0.90). And, at certain times they’d have happy hours… as well as live bands.
Plus, if you have a hankering for some fun and games or show off your skills… then there’s a pool table too.
7. Vertigo
Vertigo has been in Danang for a while… well known for being the prime Sports Bar. And, in the old days when it was on An Thuong 1… we did go there for a change of scenery, or to watch some AFL.
We still remember being there in 2017… when Paul had the dream of witnessing Richmond win the AFL Grand Final! So, that sure was memorable, and a monumental day.
Yet, nowadays the location of Vertigo is amongst the main action on, Ngo Thi Si. And, in comparison to some of the other bars on the same street… it didn’t seem that busy when we were out drinking. In saying that, it is a good place to go and watch live sports.
Now, here’s another cool little place you should check out…
8. Tipsy Corner Pub
Love the name of this pub and in our experience, yes, you can get tipsy very easily! And, with beers here being some of the cheapest we’ve seen it’s great for the budget too. Plus, at the time of writing they have happy hours between 5pm and 8pm… where you can buy 2 and get 1 free on selected drinks.
The owner is a friendly, jolly and lovely guy… who actually owns the Corner Bar too.
The music here is great and you could even dance the night away… when your favorite tunes start playing. Plus, if you’re feeling peckish… you’re not far away from a magnificent place for banh mi, by the name of, Banh Mi Co Phuong.
Next on our list of bars in Da Nang, is this one…
9. Filling Station
Filling Station is a massive pub with a mix of expats and tourists. Whether you’re after cocktails, beers, coffee or juices… they have an extensive menu that also includes Western and Vietnamese dishes.
They have happy hours throughout the day, such as buy 2 get 1 free on selected beers.
Now, you need to know that with this happy hour special it applies per person. So, for example, if I bought 2 bottles of Huda beer where one is for me, and the other is for Paul… the next beer would NOT be for free. For the happy hour to be eligible, I would have to buy those 2 beers for myself… then I could get a free beer.
As far as we’re aware, this is the only place we’ve come across that has this strange requirement!
Even so, the beers here are super cold and cheap. Plus, there are a couple of pool tables to pass the time away. Or, we’ve seen many people try their luck to get a soft toy at the Skill Tester machine!
10. C Bar
This bar is vastly different from all the bars I’ve gone through previously. The C Bar exudes sophistication and style, with its many red lanterns and lamp lightings… adorning the dark wood interior. There are paintings of beautiful ladies as the backdrop for the bar and stage. Thus, with a stage they do have live bands that perform every now and again.
As with a place like this, drinks are slightly more expensive than the other places in our travel blog. Yet, it sure is a place to check out for its beautiful surroundings. Plus, if you get hungry they do cook up some dishes here too to fill your belly.
So, there you have some of the top bars in Danang Vietnam to quench your thirst… when in the awesome My An beach area. And, you could even do a bar crawl going to each place if you were short on time.
Yet, the one great thing that we found after having not been in Danang for a few years… surprisingly the prices of drinks has not increased in price much. Well, at least in the My An area anyway.
And, while we have gone through a number of bars… there are plenty more you can check out. Plus, if you’re looking for other awesome and memorable things to do in Danang… then check out the many activities on offer.
Enjoy your time in Da Nang. CHEERS!
