Paul and I were lucky enough to have won a competition. It was for 3 nights at the Novotel Hotel in St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia.
Melbourne is known for having erratic weather. That’s why you might hear locals saying that you can get 4 seasons in 1 day!
It had been raining… yet one afternoon we decided to brave the cold and wet weather to get lunch.
With umbrella in hand for the “in case” factor, we thought we’d check out Fitzroy Street. From the Novotel St Kilda, it was less than 10 minutes walk to Fitzroy Street via the waterfront.
It had been a while since we were there. So it’d be great to see what had changed.
WOW! We couldn’t believe how quiet it was. There were several empty shops too. Yet, we found the door to this place open, with no for lease or for sale signs on it.
Vegie Time for a Good Time?
Vegie Time sounded good, and the aromas wafting out smelt even better. So rather than keep walking we followed our noses and went inside.
It was a simple, unpretentious little restaurant. It was all vegetarian food and many were vegan too.
Vegie Time Vegetarian restaurant could seat a few people along the window front. There were also several tables and chairs for about 20 people or so inside.
And as you can see in the photo… there’s seating outside. Perfect for a Summer day or if you’re rugged up in Winter!
There was a bain-marie type set up with about 10 different dishes. On the day we were there these included… stir fry veggies, yellow curry, Thai basil veggies, and curry laksa.
You could also get entree dish like spring rolls, samosas, and curry puffs.
They could also make meals to order including fried rice, noodle soups, and more.
I was starting to get hangry! So to prevent an ugly scene, we choose from the bain-marie. LOL!
Paul was quick with his choices and chose 3 dishes with brown rice…
It looked like big feed! So I ended up with 2 choices with brown rice.
OMG! It was so flavortown! The curry was so fragrant and delicious. The portions were pretty generous too.
It was surprisingly cheap, especially as you get a lot of food. Our lunch time vegetarian meals was only AUD $21 (about USD $14.50). We thought it was well worth the money. They claim to not use MSG, which is great too.
In fact, we thought it was so good we came back the next day, to try a few different dishes.
Even meat eaters should give it crack! We highly recommend it.
Vegie Time is on 49 Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, Melbourne.
