There are several options to get from Malta to Malta International Airport.
Yet, while Paul and I were staying in Sliema, we preferred a taxi service to the airport. We thought it’d be more convenient, especially as we had large suitcases. Plus, we had a few hand luggage pieces too.
I enquired at the 24 hour Taxi stand in Sliema, near the ferries wharf. Yet, it seemed a little difficult.
Then I did a Google search for taxis to Malta Airport.
There were many that came up in the search results. I tried to look for reviews and even photos of a short list of companies. And in the end I chose a company called, Welcome Pickups.
For the direct link for a Malta airport transfer, click HERE.
It appears they operate their services in many countries. So for their general website, here is the URL:
https://www.welcomepickups.com/about/
Their website was professional, detailed and many positive reviews, which seemed genuine. Their process for keeping the customer up to date on the taxi transfer to the airport was thorough too.
Booking The Airport Transfer To Malta Airport
I decided to book online for the airport transfer. So once I was on the home page of their Malta website, is was easy to use.
I initially got a quote by entering our details…
Then a new page appeared, which looked like this…
The quote from the Hotel 1926 in Sliema to the Malta International Airport was 21 Euro. This was a pretty good Malta taxi price.
Then, I continued to insert the details onto this webpage.
TIP:
I didn’t have a Maltese or European mobile phone number at the time. So I entered the phone number for the Hotel.
After entering the details I hit the Continue button…
Then a page like this appeared…
The option to pay is via credit card or Paypal. I chose to use credit card and there were no fees that I had to pay on top of the taxi fare, which was great.
Then after entering the details I hit the pay button to book.
After my payment was processed, a page appeared on the website to say that my booking was successful.
I liked how they showed where I was in the booking process so I knew what to expect.
Here’s What Happened After Booking The Malta Airport Taxi
So, about half an hour after making the taxi booking… I hadn’t received a confirmation email.
Then I checked their Help & Support section, which mentioned that if I hadn’t received a confirmation email yet… to check my spam and junk folder.
And when I did this I found the email confirmation there! In fact, the email confirmation was sent about a minute after I booked the taxi to Malta airport on their site.
So in the email were details of the confirmed booking. I could also alter the booking by a certain time if I needed.
Then, about an hour or so later Welcome Pickups sent me another email. And in this was the name, photo and phone number of the driver.
Plus, it had the details of his car including the type, color and number plate.
Now, is that great service or what?
When Paul and I were checking out of the hotel, we noticed that there was a gentleman in reception.
And we thought he was checking out at the same time. Yet, the person at reception said that we had someone waiting for us… and he pointed at that gentleman.
We were surprised because he was 15 minutes earlier than our pick up time. Yet, it was better that he was early than late!
He helped with loading our luggage into the car. And during our journey to Malta airport, we felt safe and comfortable.
Then, when after dropping us off at the airport, he again was helping us to unload our luggage.
The process and service from start to finish for booking our taxi from Sliema, to Malta Airport was excellent.
We recommend you give Welcome Pickups a try.
PRO TIP:
When you land in Malta airport, as you depart there’s a big taxi stand in the front left corner. These prices to destinations in Malta are fixed, and is a convenient.
This is the service we used from the airport into Sliema. Our driver was great… yet we should’ve booked him for our return trip back to Malta airport.
We didn’t even think about it until it was too late. Maybe we were too jet lagged!
Each one way trip to Sliema and back to the airport would be 20 Euro each. And that’s an excellent Malta taxi price!
Otherwise, Welcome Pickups is an efficient and thorough taxi service.
