Have you had daydreams at work or home, about going on vacation? Are you on the fence, thinking you’re better off saving your money for a rainy day… rather than spending it on a holiday?
Well, right now I’ll say to you to stop thinking so much! Because, whether you’re a stay at home parent, work for yourself, or someone else… you should take a break from it all and travel.
So, the last thing you want is burn out, because if worse comes to worse… you could end up in a hospital bed. Then, you won’t be able to do anything!
But, going on a vacation should be fun, even when planning it.
Yet, that doesn’t mean you have to go on a 4 week vacation… as not everyone has the luxury of time. And, if your budget doesn’t allow for it, then you don’t have to stay at 5 star resorts.
But, there are NO excuses why you can’t travel.
Even if you travel within your own country or state… you can still have memorable experiences that will make you better off for doing it. Plus, it’s even better if you can go somewhere new.
So in this blog, I’ll run through 5 reasons to go on vacation.
1. Travel More Or Be A Bore… Experience Something New
Let’s face it… sitting at home watching TV day in and day out is BORING! And, I could think of a million better things to do, than sitting at home getting stale.
So, the funny thing I’ve found is that when I go on vacation to a different place… I feel like I have more freedom. And, I get a rush of excitement because there are so many things to explore.
Seeing new sights, smelling different aromas in the air… and immersing yourself in a new environment and cultures is what traveling is all about.
And, I know this might sound a little crazy, but I’m going to share a little story with you.
So, I have to admit that I’m scared of heights. Yet, when I was in Tyrol Austria, I was given the opportunity to do paragliding.
And, of course to do this I had to take off from a high mountain peak. So, I was shit scared as you could imagine! I can just see those of you who are scared of heights, nodding your head in agreement!
Yet, when I saw how beautiful Tyrol was… I had to see how beautiful it was from above. And, it was spectacular!
So, I got over my fears and I’m glad I did, as that experience was one of the best things I’ve done on my holidays.
So, stop being a bore and travel more. Start planning your next vacation NOW! And, let us know what exciting experiences you have.
2. Have A Party In Your Mouth
So, what the heck do I mean when I say, you can have a party in your mouth?
Well, when on vacation you’re going to have to eat and drink right? So, when you’re away, this is a great opportunity to try new local foods.
And, oh my goodness Paul and I have had some of the most delicious foods EVER. We went to “Flavortown” many times… LOL! Some of it would almost nudge my Mom’s cooking too. I’m sure she’s not reading this, right? Argh!
And, sometimes we had some surprises… because the food looked and tasted different to the same dish we’d have at home. That’s why going to the origin of a particular food type, makes it better.
So, check out some of these meals and drinks we’ve had…
Massive platter at Bilice Kebap in Istanbul, Turkey for 130 Turkish Lira (about USD $22.65).
We enjoyed these local beers at a place called, The Hideout… which was in the West Lake area of Hanoi. These 500ml beers cost only about USD $1.30 each!
Yum, yum, yum… these delicious parcels stuffed with cheese or peas. We got these traditional pastizzis in Gozo, Malta.
And, for something special, how about drinks at a 5 star hotel with a view? Here’s a view from the SO Sofitel Bangkok Hotel Club Signature Lounge…
So, make sure you leave some room in your budget for going out and eating. When on vacation, it’s great to have others wait hand and foot on you… because after all, you deserve it!
3. Discover New Ways To Live Your Life
If you’re doing the same routine every day, then sometimes life can get a bit boring, right?
So, the great thing about traveling is that sometimes you can look at things in a different way.
For example, if you drive to work everyday it can get frustrating because rush hour is crazy. Yet, if you holiday in Amsterdam for example, you’ll notice that a lot of people ride bicycles to get around.
So, riding to work might be a great option. When I was back in the corporate world, I would often ride my bicycle to work. And, even if I felt sleepy in the morning when I woke up… by the time I got to work I was wide awake and feeling refreshed.
The exercise helps to produce “feel-good chemicals” called, endorphins. And, even better was if I’d had a bad day at work… the bike ride home would help release any anger or stress!
So, when you’re on holiday… there may be different experiences you encounter and a light bulb goes off in your head. And, these experiences may be things you can introduce back at home, to help you live a better lifestyle.

4. You Appreciate Your Home Comforts
Paul and I have been traveling for many years. And, as we constantly travel and experience new things… we find that we miss some of the creature comforts at home.
So, our “home” is in Melbourne, Australia. Yet, some of the places we’ve been to have been third world or developing countries.
And, for some people it can be a culture shock. Yet, on those travels you discover that at home you have so much more than others.
So as an example, when we were in Vietnam, we were out having some beers. And, after speaking with some of the locals… they shared stories of having everything stripped from them including family, because of war.
And, some would tell us that they earn USD $10 a MONTH.
So, to live on $10 a month for us or for many travelers is unimaginable. Yet, the thing is they still look happy, and go about their daily routine without fuss.

And, a big lifestyle difference we saw were that the kids aren’t on iPads. Instead, they have fun with things that they can find like cardboard boxes.
Plus, there can be 3 generations of families living in a tiny house. And, they wouldn’t even have beds to sleep on, just mats. Makes you appreciate your bed, pillow and duvet at home, right?
So, by going on vacation it can help you appreciate what you have. And, that’s because gratitude in life goes a LONG way.
5. It’s A Great Way To Relieve Stress
So, how many times in your daily life have you wanted to pull the hair out of your head… or want to hit a brick wall?
And, would you really want to look older than you are… or risk contracting diseases because you’re stressing out? NO WAY!
So, another reason to go on vacation is to reduce stress, and improve your health. Did you know that stress produces certain hormones such as cortisol… which puts your body out of whack? Thus, you can end up putting on unwanted weight!
And, this bad fat that piles onto your body can lead to diseases including… heart disease, diabetes and more.
So, I’m sure you don’t want to feel like crap if you can avoid it. Thus, one of the best stress relievers is to go on vacation.
Imagine sitting on a secluded beach in warm weather… or how about a skiing vacation at your dream resort? Now, this should instantly reduce your stress and put a smile on your face.
And, wouldn’t it be great to not have to wake up to an alarm every day? Now, you can do this when you’re holidays. So, here’s another reason to go on vacation!
Yet, don’t dream it… DO IT!

So, there were 5 reasons to go on vacation and why you should travel more. And, there are PLENTY more reasons. I’m sure you can think of heaps of reasons yourself right now.
