Research and Booking
Paul and I were looking for accommodation near the iconic… Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne.
I checked on the Le Club Accor Hotels app to see what I could find around the area. To help me find what was nearby, I used the Map search function on the app.
There were a few options. Yet, have checked some reviews on Tripadvisor and Hotels.com… we decided on the Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments.
The rate per night for this 3 star hotel was AUD $98 (about USD $68).
The Location
This Ibis Hotel is on Therry Street, on the edge of Melbourne’s Central Business District. This hotel is in a great position for public transport, in particular the trams.
It’s also next to another Accor Hotel, the Mercure Melbourne Therry Street.
One of the requirements was that the hotel should be close to the Vic Market. Yes, it was! It’s only a few hundred meters away, so a nice stroll.
I’ll go through more about the handy location of this hotel later.
Check In
Once you go through the sliding doors, there are several seats before you get to reception.
The reception area was busy when we arrived. Yet, one of the staff caught our eye and acknowledged us. That was a good start.
At the check in, our elite Accor status was recognized with an upgrade! We got a room upgrade from a Standard Queen Room… to a One Bedroom Apartment with a King Bed. Oh yeah, bring it on!
The staff member was polite, conversational and efficient.
The Room
Once we opened the door to the apartment, we noticed it was a decent size.
On the small round dining table was a welcome gift of 2 complimentary bottles of water… and some sweet treats. I think they’ll all be for me! A very nice touch from the Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments.
There was a kitchen area and separate living area. The living area had a big couch, coffee table, desk, chair, flat screen TV, and lamp…
To the left of the entrance was the kitchen…
There was plenty of cupboard space. There was big fridge and freezer. Next to that was bench space with a cupboard beneath it.
Amenities in the kitchen included complimentary tea, coffee and sugar. There was cutlery, cups, glasses, wine glasses, bowls and plates…
There was a sink with hot and cold water, a kettle and microwave. There was no stovetop, or cooking utensils so we couldn’t cook up a storm in the apartment. Yet, for this stay that didn’t bother us.
Because part of the reason was that we wanted to be close to the Victoria Market so we could get lots of goodies there!
The Bedroom
A door separates the living area from the bedroom. Once we opened it there was big, inviting king size bed with 2 pillows. There were side tables and lamps on either side…
Opposite the bed was another flat screen TV. Great! So if we wanted to watch TV, Paul and I would have our own. Some of the things Paul watches bores me to tears. LOL!
There was also an open cupboard, with drawers, iron, ironing board and small safe.
On the side of that were shelving areas. There was also a full length mirror!
We were grateful for the upgrade, and we were impressed so far.
The Bathroom
Another door separated the bedroom and bathroom. There were towels, tissues, soap, shampoo, body lotion, and hair dryer.
I was surprised when I saw the bathtub, as I wasn’t expecting it in this hotel!
Although it’s a 3 star hotel… the room and amenities of the Ibis Apartments Melbourne Hotel were better than some 4 stars we’ve been to!
If I had to be picky, not much natural light came in.
Our room was next to a tall building that blocked out a lot of the light. Yet, that didn’t bother us as we wouldn’t be in the room much. Plus, the room location meant peace and quiet for a restful sleep.
Dining
Unfortunately we can’t comment on our dining experiences here at the Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments. As with so many great restaurants, cafes and places to eat in Melbourne… we ate out or got take away on this trip.
Yet, as part of our status with Accor Plus and Le Club Accor… we could get a free drink each.
So after a day full of walking the streets of Melbourne shopping, we were knackered. So we redeemed our freebie for a couple of beers. And the great thing was, the staff allowed us to take it to our room…
Around the Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments
As I mentioned earlier the Queen Victoria Market is only a few hundred meters away from the hotel.
The Vic Market is a major landmark in Melbourne. This open air market sprawls over around seven hectares… where you can do lots of shopping and eating here! Plus, there are many themed events held here throughout the year.
Our favorite area in the Queen Vic Market is the Delicatessen section. There are so many gourmet cheeses, deli goods, breads, sweets, pies, and MUCH MORE. So you really have to check it out when you’re in Melbourne.
A word of warning… The Queen Victoria Market Hours is NOT every day. It is not open on Mondays and Wednesdays. So to find out more head on over to their website at: www.qvm.com.au
Within walking distance are lots of pubs, restaurants, cafes, and shops. And if you don’t feel like walking, there’s plenty of public transport options. Plus, it’s also in the Melbourne Free Tram Zone.
There’s also plenty of ride share options too if you want to take a car.
There’s so much to do!
Would we stay here again?
Yes. It was fantastic to get an upgrade to the One Bedroom Apartment. You gotta love having elite status! Plus, the location of this Melbourne Ibis Hotel is great.
The service given by staff was efficient, friendly and helpful.
Plus, the amenities were surprisingly good for a 3 star hotel too. Yet the only thing we forgot to check was the wifi internet speed!
Aside from that, put the Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments on your shortlist of Melbourne accommodation.
Enjoy Melbourne and all it has to offer!
